Convener of Congress of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (CSCSN), Comrade Andrew Emelieze on Wednesday asked the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to drop all the charges against the ASCSN President, Comrade Bola Audu.
Comrade Emelieze in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan also called on NAPTIP boss to investigate the officers behind the detaining of the ASCSN President.
In the statement, Comrade Emelieze stated that some NAPTIP officers some months back allegedly detained the ASCSN President ” for weeks with a charge of human trafficking as against his fundamental human rights,”
According to the CSCSN Convener, Comrade Bola Audu ” was locked up, all in the pretence of investigations “, adding, ” Your officers eventually released him when they could not substantiate the offence of human trafficking against him but later changed the charge to “exploitation of the vulnerable” , which they have also not been able to substantiate despite many court sittings.”
” The arrest of Comrade Bola Audu has been protested in many quaters by members of the union (ASCSN). The recent developments as regards the crisis confronting ASCSN suggest that Comrade Audu’s arrest is a set up and that most likely your officers must have compromised the process through the hasty arrest and prolonged detention of Comrade Audu inorder to pave the way for some union politics”, he said
Comrade Emelieze added, ” as a working class movement, we do not expect that a sensitive organization like yours would allow itself to be used to settle disputes among trade unionists.”
” We therefore call for the investigations of your officers involved in the arrest and detention of the ASCSN President. We also call on the Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Dr Fatima Waziri-Azi, to as a matter of justice drop all the charges brought against the President.”
