The factional crisis rocking Accord Party in Oyo State assumed a fresh dimension on Thursday as one of the warring factions declared that the party was no longer “a one man party” in the state.
This was stated by the State Publicity Secretary of a faction of the party in Oyo State, Honourable Josiah Olufemi Idowu while addressing newsmen in Ibadan.
The factional Publicity Secretary who declared that although Senator Rashidi Ladoja’s “name and reputation was used to bring Accord to limelight” in Oyo State added that “things have changed, especially after some political mistakes of last election in the state”.
“Accord is not a one man party. Let it be on record that he was a rallying point and symbol of the party at a time. However, politics is about the people and not a person. The wish of the people is more important in politics. We have a new leadership under the Chairman Honourable Dauda Lawal. Senator Ladoja is a critical stakeholder just like Senator Lanlehin, Ilaka and the rest,”he said.
Hon Idowu stressed further “we rever Senator Ladoja, whose name and reputation was used to bring Accord to limelight but things have changed, especially after some political mistakes of last election in the state”.
“I can tell you that over 80 percent of members of the party are clamouring for a new clime and a new beginning. We lost last election because candidates were imposed on the party, we’re ready to take over government in the state”.
Speaking further, the Publicity Secretary insisted that the party “duly and legally conducted its state congress at the Olubadan stadium on Saturday October 22” and that “there is no way any other political gathering elsewhere could be termed as a parallel congress”.
“There is only one Accord in Oyo state with a duly state congress held at the Olubadan stadium, Iyaganku on Saturday October 22, 2016. All officers under the state secretariat were duly elected and received certificates according to the constitution of our party and with representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), state Police and the state DSS on ground. This legally and credibly legitimise the congress held at the Olubadan with necessary approval from the headquarters of our party in Abuja”.
While denying the existence of factions in the party in Oyo state, Honourable Idowu said “we had a legitimate congress last Saturday, though we’re not ruling out the fact that there may be other political gathering elsewhere. Any other information emanating from any group of people should not be taken serious”.
“We need to put it on record so that our supporters will not be misled. No division in our party, it is natural worldwide that there could be disagreement, that is the beauty of democracy. However, that will not in any way take away the constitution of the party which is supreme away in whatever circumstances.”
The briefing was attended by prominent members of the faction including Prince Dotun Oyelade, the newly elected state Secretary Honourable Muda Ogunsola, the Chairman of the last congress Honourable Adejumobi Samuel.
Hon Idowu gave names of the 20 elected officers in the faction as: Chairman – Hon Dauda Lawal, Vice Chairman Adetona Adeniyi, Secretary Hon Muda Ogunsola, Treasurer- Mr Adebimpe Kehinde, Financial secretary – Otunba Amuda Ayodele, Organising secretary – Owolabi Folaranmi and Youth Leader Hon Yinka Oladimeji.
