Court Fixes March 21 For Hearing Case Of Man Who Allegedly Plotted kidnap Of His Cousin In Zaria

The High Court 1, Dogarawa Zaria, Kaduna State presided over by Justice Kabir Dabo has fixed March 21 for the continuation of hearing in the trial of Abubakar Haliru who was accused of kidnapping his cousin, Hajiya Binta Mohammed.  

At the resumed hearing of the case on Monday, the Prosecution Counsel, Mrs Jummai Dan-Azumi, said the prosecution had three witnesses to call, while the defense counsel, Isa Shuaibu, also affirmed that he was ready.

However, the presiding judge, Justice Dabo said he cannot take the witnesses as the case was slated for mention not hearing.

According to the Judge at the last adjourned date (Feb. 21) counsel were not in court to continue with the hearing, adding his court maintains proper case management.

Dabo said he adjourned the matter to today (February 28) for further mention and rescheduled hearing.

On January 24 and 25, the victim, Hajia Binta Mohammed while testifying as prosecution witness number one, alleged that her cousin, Abubakar Haliru, masterminded her kidnap.

She added that on August 10, 2021, the defendant called her and requested her to accompany him to Dan Magaji, Zaria, to see one Alhaji Salisu in respect of the money for her tricycle business.

According to her,  Haliru subsequently handed her over to kidnappers where she spent eight weeks with the gang of kidnappers and the kidnappers collected N5.5 million, N70,000 recharge card and two mobile phones before she regained her freedom. 

It would be recalled that Abubakar Haliru was arraigned before the High Court on Jan. 11 over alleged kidnapping contrary to the provisions of Section 246 of Penal Code Laws of Kaduna State.
