The Federal High Court sitting in Damaturu, Yobe State Capital has declared Bashir Sheriff Machina as the All Progressives Congress (APC), authentic senatorial candidate for Yobe North in the coming 2023 National Assembly elections and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept and publish his name accordingly.
The declaration was made by the presiding judge, Justice Fadima Aminu.
In her verdict on Wednesday, the Judge affirmed Machina as the duly and validly elected Yobe North senatorial candidate for APC, thereby upholding the May 28 primary election of the party that produced him.
Some residents of Machina that spoke to our correspondent on phone hailed the verdict of the court, while describing the judgement as a welcome development and display of rule of law.
Others were of the opinion that the judgement took a long time, however, it was finally a justifiable verdict in the overall interest of the law, peace and democracy, while a few said, the judgement was a clear indication that the court is the last resort for the poor or weak.
