Court Adjourns Trial Of Alleged Killers Of Colonel

An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has adjourned trial of the six accused persons charged with the  murder of the Commandant in an Army secondary school in Ibadan. Colonel Anthony Ekok Okeyin (52),
till April 20.

The six accused persons who were arraigned on 28th April, 2017 on a five-count charge bordering on murder and armed robbery are: Agada Solomon Emmanuel, Taiwo Adeniyi, Bibisoye Kehinde, Ewere Andrew, Udobata Orusa-Uzie, and Ephraim Obi.

In the charge marked I/87c/2017  before Justice Segun Olagunju, the prosecution stated that the six  accused persons allegedly “committed the offence at 6.15 a.m on December 12, 2016 at Commandant Quarters of the Nigeria Army Secondary School, Apata, Ibadan in the Ibadan Judicial Division by conspiring to commit felony to wit: murder, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section.324 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000”.

On count 2, the prosecution stated that the six accused persons  allegedly “caused the death of Colonel Anthony Ekok Okeyin by breaking his skull, thereby committing an offence of murder contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319” of the same Criminal Code.

Concerning the count of robbery, the six accused persons were alleged to have conspire “to commit felony, armed robbery, using offensive weapon, that is, cutlass, to rob the deceased of his Samsung X4 and cash sum.of N45,000.

According to the prosecution, the offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 1(2)(a) and (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap RII, Vol. 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004″.

All the accused persons whose pleas were not taken, have since arraignment been remanded at the Agodi Prison custody.

Barristers O.O. Olukunle represents the first defendant, Adebayo Adegbite represents the 2nd and 4th defendants; I.O Batimoh represents the third defendant; R.C. Farmah represents the 5th, while the 6th defendant is being represented by Barrister O.O. Uwawah.

It will be recalled that the Army Colonel was murdered on December 12, 2016 allegedly by the defendants at the Commandant Quarters of the Nigeria Army Secondary School, Apata, Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
