The Presidency on Tuesday described comments allegedly made by Brirtish Prime Minister, David Cameron on the level of corruption in Nigeria as an exaggeration.
Cameron had reportedly descrined Nigeria and Afganistan as two countries that were “fantastically corrupt.”
The derogatory comment was allegedly made while President Muhammadu Buhari was airborne to participate in an anti corruption summit in London.
The Nigerian President is listed as one of the keynote speakers at the prevent conference scheduled for today.
Reacting to the statement, however, Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, said it was not reflective of contemporary Nigerian realities.
The Presidential spokesman said the British PM might be looking at Nigeria with a mindset that no longer depicts the current realities correctly.
He said: “It is certainly not reflective of the good work that the President is doing. The eyes of the world are on what is happening here. The Prime Minister must be looking at an old snapshot of Nigeria. Things are changing with corruption and everything else. That, we believe, is the reason they chose him as a keynote Speaker at the the pre-summit conference.
“We very much cherish the good relationship between our two countries and nothing should stand in the way of improving those relations.”
