The Correspondents Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zamfara State Council has elected new executives to steer the affairs of the chapel.
In the keen contest which has been described as free and fair election, Alhaji Umar Muhammad Maradun of the Leadership Newspapers polled 11 to beat his opponent, Malam Isiaq Zaki Tambuwal of NAN who polled 10 votes.
Others elected are Malam Sanusi Muhammad of the Blueprint Newspaper as Vice chairman, Malam Ibrahim Ahmad Gada of the NAN as Secretary while Malam Bashir Malami Jabaka of Nagarta Radio as Treasurer and Malam Hussaini Yero of Leadership Ayau as Financial Secretary.
Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Abdul’Aziz Yari Abubakar represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Abdullahi Muhammad Shinkafi, urged working journalists in the state to eschew any form of sensational reporting and ensure their reports are accurate and factual and based on the ethics of their noble profession.
“Indeed, we have witnessed an era where proliferation of unethical social media platforms are on the increase, so journalists have to strive to be careful in their daily reportages”, he said.
He suggested that government at all levels should regulate the social media users to avoid making unethical messages that could lead to the destruction in the society.
Similarly, the state Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Sanda Muhammad Danjari, pledged to work hand in hand with the working journalists in the state to move the forward.
In his acceptance speech, the new elected chairman, Maradun, thanks promised to carry all members of the correspondents along for the progress of the chapel.
