A poser has ensued for NYSC officials at the Wailo Orientation camp of corps member in the Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi state.

The tragedy struck out during a meditation exercise at the camp when a corps member, Magdalene Yohanna collapsed and died shortly after commencement.

Late Magdalene Yohanna was an asthmatic corps member, a complaint she tendered before an NYSC camp official, but was turned down on the pretext that service members were fond of giving flimsy excuses in order to avoid parade.

Magdelene had reportedly complained to the NYSC official about her protracted asthma and how she could not be fit to attend the morning meditation, but the complaint fell on deaf ears.

Another corps member who witnessed the argument between the deceased and the camp official, explained that the next day late Magdelene was forced to take  part in the morning meditation despite her earlier complaint.

The victim was reportedly slumped during the exercise and was rushed to the camp clinic, but the situation got worse, and she was transferred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi where she died.

Medical doctors at the ATBUTH when contacted as to what led to the untimely death of Magdelene could not answer the question as, according to them, they were not authorized to speak to anyone about her death.

Also efforts to reach the NYSC Public Relations Officer in Bauchi, Mr. Artu Marcus did not yield positive result as his telephone number was switched off at time of inquiries.

It was similarly learnt that although the incident occurred on Monday, April 1, 2019, the management of the NYSC in Bauchi state is yet to make any official statement on it.

The closing ceremony of the three week Batch A corps members orientation course was however last Wednesday attended by the service Director-General, Brig. Gen. Zakari Kazaure where the death of Magdelene was neither mentioned, nor a minute silence as a tribute to her passing away.

Late Magdelene Yohanna was said to have hailed from Harshuwa, Kwaturu district in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

An orphan, Magdalene was reportedly a second graduate in her hometown, Harshuwa, who was also said to have sponsored her higher education.

She was buried last Friday at her hometown in Kaduna State.
