He explained that, in spite of the success recorded since the commencement of the Containment Order, the bandits elements across front line local government areas have been unrelenting in devising new strategies aimed at circumventing the impact of the containment order.
The strategies range from attacking motorists/motorcycles to siphon PMS from their fuel tanks, ransacking communities and coercing villagers in to sourcing PMS on their behalf, he said.
He noted that, a recent and most worrisome move by the criminals was the observed acquisition of Radio Frequency Walkie Talkie Transceivers by the bandits which they have started using. Pointing out that, Security Agencies are however on their trail with a view to bringing the malpractice to an end.
Dr Inuwa said Government has noted with dismay on the engagement of some unscrupulous elements smuggling PMS to bandits enclaves and menace of informants has equally continue to be reoccurring decimal causing serious setbacks in the fight against kidnapping and banditry. adding that, majority of such elements have been arrested and now facing prosecution.
He emphasized that, the containment order has been strategically adopted to curb insecurity confronting Katsina state and the measure couple with the ongoing offensive operations by Security Agencies have significantly impacted on the ability of the criminal elements to traverse the forest and communicate with their informants or relatives of kidnap victims.
” This measure has also limited bandits access to cattle markets to sell off rustled and stolen animals in order to secure funds for purchase of arms and ammunition. Thus, we have witnessed a decline in all banditry related activities across Katsina state,” Dr Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa has said.
As he commended the efforts of the Security Agencies, Dr Muhammad Inuwa enjoined People of the state to give Government maximum cooperation through reporting activities of informants and people with suspicious character to the Law Enforcement Agencies. He describing the Containment Order as a child of necessity and has not been put in place to hurt or cause hardship to the citizens of the state.
