Communal clash leaves fifteen persons wounded in Ukele

More than fifteen persons have sustained bullet wounds as a result of a community clash in Ukele in Yala local government area of Cross River.
Also reports had it that eleven buildings were burnt down following an invasion of Oyoba village in Wanikade  by neighbouring community, Ihetazi in Wanihem,  Ukele north.
The invasion which resulted from a boundary dispute caused the displacement of over One hundred and thirty persons including children and women.
Our Correspondent gathered that the invaded village recorded massive destruction of their  food stuff such as yam, rice, garri, economic trees as well as household property.
Also destroyed were sources of water such as streams and Wells poisoned.
Those displaced are now squatting with relatives and friends in neighbouring villages.
However following the intervention of security personnel, the situation has been brought under control.
Speaking on the incident, Chief Christopher Okoko from Oyoba village said the attackers invaded at 3 pm in the afternoon  when most of them had gone to the market.
He said those who dared them were shot and wounded while the elderly, children and women were chased away from the village.
He said the fifteen persons that were shot were being treated in various hospitals and clinics.
Okoko described the attack as barbaric and wicked, noting that the invaders had lived with them as brothers and have always inter-married.
A youth leader Mr Mathias Egede described the invasion as an act of war and called on security personnel to ensure that the culprits were brought to book.
Mrs Helen Idah who spoke about the incident said she was taking refuge with her children and relatives.
The Director general of Cross River  State Emergency Management Agency  Mr. John Inaku who assessed the damage described it as massive and condemned  the  action  of the warring communitie while sueing for peace amongst them.
