Commonwealth Games: NBF Releases List Of Boxers

Nigeria Boxing Federation have released the final list of eight boxers that will represent the country in the forthcoming XXII Commonwealth Games to be hosted by Australia.
A total of 16 boxers who have been in camp competed in the two day trials held at the Brai Ayonote Boxing Gym,National Stadium, Surulere,Lagos under the watchful eyes of judges who assessed their performance. At the end of the trials, the seven man technical committee led by the Vice President/ Chairman technical and rules committee  of the  Federation Brig. Gen Joseph Ayeni ( rtd) selected the best amongst them to represent the country in Gold Coast, Australia.
Those who made the list includes four females namely; Ayisat Oriyomi -51 kg (Lagos State), Yetunde Odunuga – 60 kg ( Nigerian Army), Itunu Oriola -69 kg (Lagos State) and Milicent Agboegbunam-75 kg ( Delta State).
The male boxers are ; Ojo Sikiru Fatai -56 kg ( Nigerian Police), Soyoye Kazeem -60 kg (Ogun State) , Osita Umeh -69 kg (Nigerian Army) and Lukman Lawal -81 kg (NSCDC).
Meanwhile Brig.Gen Ayeni has commended all the pugilists for the tremendous improvement they’ve made in camp hoping that it will enable them go for medal haul in Australia even as he appealed to the Ministry of Youths and Sports to consider including  the eight dropped boxers in the proposed foreign training tour to enable them serve as sparring partners to the selected boxers  ahead of the second most important Games after the Olympics.
