The Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, (NASI), Maj-General Kasimu Ibrahim Abdulkarim has solicited for support and cooperation from journalists for the purpose of peace and unity in the country.
He made the appeal when the new executives of Nigerian union of journalists (NUJ), Kaduna coucnil paid a courtesy call on him in Jaji.
He lamented the role of journalists on the social media in the country who could not balance their stories and always in a hurry for publication, adding that their actions caused more havoc and disunity among the people.
He said there are always negative stories carried out by the social media which misleads people, saying, people make so much mistake in this social platform.
He however appealed to those people operating the social media to verify their stories and balance them before publication for the benefit of the country; pointing out that the country belong to all Nigerians but not a section of Nigeria.
The Commandant promised to partner with journalists when necessary in area of training, adding that the organization is already giving that kind of assistance to the Federal road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to strengthen security in the country.
He debunked the rumours making the rounds that 250 soldiers were dismissed by the Nigerian Army, saying that there were the soldiers sent to North East of the country but absconded for one week and yet they were paid their salaries and entitlements; adding that they should thank President Buhari who recalled them.
Earlier, the new Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Kaduna State Chapter, Comrade Garba Mohammed appealed to the Commandant to temper justice with mercy about the said dismissed soldiers for the purpose of their families.
He also appealed for support in area of training and retraining of journalists especially the courses in his organization that would benefit them; pointing out that quakes would soon be weeded out of the profession.
