Cleric urges couples to embrace family planning for good health

The Imam/Amir Musulumi in Ogungbade, Egbeda local government area of Oyo State, Alfa Shuaib Oyebamji on Tuesday asked couples in Nigeria to embrace family planning to have good health.
Alfa Oyebamiji made the call while speaking at a sensitization campaign/awareness programme initiated by the Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI).
The Cleric pointed out that there is the need for couples and others to embrace family planning considering its benefits especially to the mother’s health and the entire family.
According to the Imam, Islam enjoins women to breast feed their baby for two years, which in other word allows women to put gap between one child and the other.
Also, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the local government, Pastor Adesola Gbolagade in his remark expressed his support for family planning, describing it as a welcome programme to plan for the number of children to be born, saying, it is important for parents to embrace family planning going by the present socio-economic situation in the country.
Speaking, Chairman of the Community Development Council, Egbeda Local Government, Chief John Olabode Olaogun, noted that it has become clear for people, particularly the couples to embrace family planning so as to enable them to plan their sexual life so as not to run into troubles.
NURHI Team leader in the state, Mrs. Stella Akinso however said the visibility/knowledge parade/rally was organized to create more awareness on the family planning among the people of the council area.
Mrs Akinso stressed that this was to encourage women to embrace the various available family planning methods that suit them in view of the benefits attached to it, saying the aimed was to cover 1 million women in the state in the next three (3) years on family planning methods, counseling and awareness.
She emphasized that the idea of family planning was not to discourage child bearing, but to sensitize them about family planning methods where they will be free from unforeseen challenges.
Mrs Akinso pointed out that the phase one of the campaign has been carried out in five Local Government Areas of Ibadan metropolis whilethe phase two which started on Wednesday at Akinyele Local Government Area of the state intends to cover ten more councils in addition to the five making it fifteen council areas.
