A Chieftain of Alliance for Democracy  (AD) in Oyo State, Engineer Hakeem Alao on Friday tasked the state government to immediately clear the heaps of refuse now across roads in Ibadan to avert breakdown of Cholera in the city
The AD governorship candidate in Oyo state in the 2019 general elections, in a statement by his  Media Aide, Omotayo Iyanda said as at present, it is glaring that heaps of refuse have taken over major roads in  Ibadan
According to Engineer Alao, the heaps of refuse on the major roads and streets in Ibadan are already becoming an embarrassment as well as constituting health hazard  in areas such as Mapo, Bere, Oje, Sango, Mokola and Challenge areas of Ibadan.
” The concerned stakeholders in the state have been calling on Makinde over the last two-three weeks and neither the governor, his aides nor the agency in charge of waste management has practically done anything to reverse the sordid situation”, he said

Engineer Alao added, ” it becomes imperative to echo the essence of cleaning up our society, more so, when Governor Makinde has refused to look at that direction lately by incapacitating the local government authorities and ignoring the stakeholders who have been calling for the removal of the filthy sites that have taken over the city”.
The AD Chieftain lamented that the ” local government authorities which ought to be saddled with the responsibility of waste management have been rendered incapacitated because the governor wants everybody to see him as a superhero”.
” Honestly, it is not only refuse that have taken over the city, also most drainages have been blocked by filths of all kinds. It is the slabs that cover up the dirt in the channels around the city”.
The AD Chieftain maintained that the time has come for Governor Makinde to act fast in order to avert a major disaster such as cholera, stating that” Cholera and other transmittable diseases are associated with an unclean environment.”
“So, not paying attention to or taking urgent action to clean up the filthy materials and remove other dangerous outgrowths that can jeopardize our people in our environment is the height of irresponsibility”.
He then urged Governor Makinde “to rise up and clean up all the mess around the city and initiate a permanent waste management system that will permanently move all these ugly sights away from Ibadan.”
