City Mass Lifts Maiden Kaduna United Netbusters Challenge Cup …Signs On Hihgest Goal Scoarer

City Mass FC put up a brilliant performance to beat opponents Gamji FC 1-0 and were rewarded with the giant trophy of the maiden edition of the Kaduna United Netbusters Challenge Cup.

The match which was played under the floodlights of the Kaduna Township Stadium on Thursday night attracted a sizable crowd of supporters of both teams.

The goal came in the second half, after both teams failed to convert several opportunities.

The barren first half witnessed anxiety from supporters of both teams as Gamji were awarded two yellow cards for hard tackles by the centre referee.

In an interview with newsmen after his team was presented the trophy, coach of City Mass, Abubakar Babagadi (Wakilin Ilimi Tudun Wada),  said winning the trophy came as a surprise.

“I am happy and I thank Almighty Allah for giving us this trophy. I never dreamt of winning it when the competition started because I fielded our Team B,” he said.

Speaking further, he said that City Mass in its 40 years of existence has won several laurels both within and outside Kaduna State, but is excited about the Netbusters trophy because the were able t come tops from a competition where 60 teams participated.

Earlier in the third place match of the competition, Flames FC subdued Kakuri Academy 2-1 to win the bronze medal.

All the 60 teams that participated were presented with balls, while the top four teams smiled to the banks with cash prizes.

The competition was organized to improve goal scoring skills of grassroots players in Kaduna with each goal scored from the second round earning cash prize of N500.

The highest goal scorer, Isiyaku Yusuf of Badiko United FC, who scored five goals, was automatically signed on to Kaduna United, alongside 22 other who were penciled down for grooming by the club.
