CITAD urges the monitor of funds for North East reconstruction

Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), a Non-governmental organization has stressed the need to set up monitoring mechanism on the funds budgeted for rehabilitation of Northeast region ravaged by insurgency to avoid diversion.
CITAD coordinator in Bauchi, Isah Garba said in a presentation of an online newsletter ‘Northeast Watch’ in Bauchi weekend, that the newsletter will focus on social accountability in the sub-region especially on the rehabilitation of the areas destroyed by insurgents to ensure that funds meant for the project were judiciously utilized.
“We are fully aware of the positive development that the north east region is receiving as a result of the military actions against the insurgents in the region. And this draw national and international attention on what next after the total defeat of the insurgents in the region as the most common words now is rehabilitation and reconstruction”, he said.
Garba stated, “While the national government has a lot plans and initiatives focusing the rehabilitation and reconstructions of the sub-region many development partners, philanthropist and the international community have already set aside huge amount of money for that purpose”.
According to him, it is important to loudly raise voice for accountability to avoid unnecessary diversion of money allocated to the Northeast by either National government, state governments, philanthropists or donor agencies.
He explained that CITAD will through its monitoring mechanism make sure that resources are judiciously utilized especially resources meant for the education sector which is the most important in finding the lasting solution to the problems of the Northeast.
“As part of our contribution to raising this voice, CITAD has decided to institute the Northeast Watch (NEW) which will key eyes on the development of the devastated sub-region”.
Garba further explained that NEW is an online newsletter which will focus on the development and rehabilitation of the Northeast, assuring that CITAD will partner with all meaningful and relevant stakeholders to source for and disseminate information on the region.
Mallam Isa Garba therefore urged all stakeholders to support the initiative to ensure its success for the overall development of the Northeast region.
