The Centre for Human Resource Development and Empowerment Initiative Kaduna (CHRDEI) in collaboration with Centre for Human Resource Development National Open University of Nigeria (CHRD-NOUN), has graduated 106 students who were trained in computer information technology and web design for six months free of charge.

The 25th graduation ceremony of the CHRDEI Centre which is meant to promote, support and sustain entrepreneurship and small-scale business through training, education and provision of support to vulnerable groups such as women and street children was held at the National Open University Auditorium along Kaduna – Zaria express way.

Speaking at the occasion, the founder CHRDEI, Hon. Dr Muhammad Ali, explained that the gesture has become incumbent upon them to give back to the society what the society gave to them, because one of the greatest challenges facing government today is proving the youth meaningful and gainful employment and opportunities for personal development.

He added that  CHRDEI cannot thank  NOUN enough for affording them the golden opportunity to collaborate with the centre for the past 11 years in order to contribute their own quota towards human capital development, saying the process of the collaboration has been able to rid society of disillusionment, despondency, degradation and drug addiction.

Ali said, “as such, it is gratifying to note that freeing women and youth from the shackles of want and poverty through this programme has shown the increased need for skills acquisition programmes, technical and vocational training  education has become necessary in our collective resolve to tackle the security breaches Nigeria faces which has challenged the patience and expertise of the best among our security services.

“To eradicate this, we must embark on serious and concerted skills acquisition training backed by entrepreneurial support for our teaming youth population. So, I congratulate all the grandaunds here today, because you are graduating with very useful and marketable skills and say no to political thuggery as elections are around the corner.”

Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of NOUN, Professor Olufemi Peter disclosed that it is important to note that success in the information driven world today requires creativity and innovation far beyond the conventional education system to which many had hitherto been accustomed.

The VC NOUN, represented by the Director Centre for Excellence in Migration and Global Studies (CEMGS), Dr Gloria Anetor expressed utmost appreciation to the host, Kaduna State Government for its support and partnership with NOUN, saying many well-paid jobs are no longer for degree holders, but also for those that can creatively solve problems with special skills and add value to human existence.

“I call on the good ambassadors of the CHEDEI-CHRD/NOUN collaboration as you engage with clients in the pursuit of your livelihood, I urge you to be steadfast, committed, resilient, innovative, hardworking, patriotic, and above all, build trust while working to achieve your goals.
