Cholera Outbreak: Yobe Govt Commences Risk Communication In Affected Communities

Following the death of four persons in Jangalawaji and Tadangara communities of Gujba Local Government Area, the Yobe State Government has commenced risk communication in the affected communities and its environs to forestall further spread of the disease.

The Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Management Board, Dr. Babagana Kundi Machina who was represented by the State Health Promotion Officer, Mister Mohammad Gado explained the aim was to create more awareness on the prevention and management of the disease at the early stage.

“There were cases of acute watery diarrhea in this area which resulted to casualties, therefore we are here to create more awareness on the causes and prevention of the disease”.

“This occurred as the result of the recent flooding in which these communities surrounded by water were affected by the outbreak of the disease. Hygiene practice is very key especially during this time of disease outbreak” he said.

The District Head, Lamido Modu who welcomed the team, thanked the Yobe state government for proactive measures to ensure the lives of the communities are safeguarded from further disease outbreak.

“As head of the community, we thank you for finding time to visit us and to give us more knowledge about this disease. Your coming shows the level of commitment by the government in providing social services to our people”

“There were three teams of physicians that visited us since the outbreak of this disease and we are most grateful” he said.

The District Head further solicited with the government to drill a borehole to the community as the over 3,000 population depend on well water and shallow boreholes for both human and animal consumption.

The Risk Communication team handed over Aqua tablets, Oral Rehydration Therapy, hygiene kits among others to District Head for onward distribution to the communities.
