The First Lady of Borno State, Dr. Falmata Babagana Umara Zulum has commended the efforts of children in acknowledging their resilience and potentials.
She also noted that her husband’s administration has made significant strides to ensure that children are not left behind, recognizing them as the backbone of the state’s future.
Dr. Zulum who stated this on Monday during the 2024 World Children’s Day commemoration held at the Multi Purpose Hall of the Government House Maiduguri, mentioned various schools that have been built and reconstructed under Governor Zulum’s administration, in addition to the ongoing efforts to provide qualified and well trained teachers through continuous training and retraining programmes.
She assured that the administration would continue to prioritize education and wellbeing of children, as well as women in the state, while praising the Commissioner of Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Zuwaira Gambo, for her steadfast dedication, support to women and children in the state.
The event was organized by the Borno State First Lady, Dr. Falmata Babagana Umara Zulum, in collaboration with the Borno State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and CP AoR Partners, with a theme, “Enhancing the Total Wellbeing of the Nigerian Child Through Quality Education and Skills Development.”
In her welcome address, the Borno State Commissioner Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Zuwaira Gambo spoke on the significant role and efforts of,the Borno State, Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum addressing child education and health among others while emphasizing his dedication to the wellbeing and education of children in the state.
Hon. Zuwaira also commended the governor for his unwavering commitment to creating a supportive and nurturing environment for Borno’s youth, specifically mentioning the Governor’s initiatives in building and reconstructing schools, as well as his focus on ensuring that government schools have well-trained teachers, thereby enhancing the quality of education for children.
Goodwill messages were delivered by key stakeholders including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, representatives from UNICEF, the CP AoR Coordinator, Save the Children, and the Women Led Organization.
The Borno State Children Parliament Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bukar Ali Satomi also emphasized the need for voices and aspirations of the children to be heard and achieved.
Highpoint of the event includes, a round table discussion where children engaged in meaningful dialogues about their future, followed by cultural dances from the Margi and Fulani groups.
Cultural dances by children from Kanuri, Babur Bura, and other communities to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Borno State, celebrating diversity and unity.
Others include, presentation of gifts to participants by Her Excellency, Dr. Falmata Babagana Umara Zulum, followed by closing remarks and a vote of thanks from the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
