Chanchangi Dam: Group Faults Havage Engineering Services Ltd Over Failure To Complete Project In Taraba

Date:

*Asks Tinubu to revoke contract, award to qualified, competent company

A group under the umbrella of Taraba Community Watchers (TCW) has drawn the attention of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority (UBRBDA) and faulted Havage Engineering Services Ltd for not meeting the terms and conditions of a contract awarded to them in 2020.

A statement signed by the Group’s Secretary, Mr. Daniel Asoaga, said Havage Engineering Services Ltd had failed woefully to finish the construction of the Chanchangi Dam in the Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, which was awarded on November 10, 2020.

The group, which aims and objectives are to monitor government-awarded projects in Taraba State, said the dam construction is to solve the perennial water problems in Takum LGA and many communities in Southern Taraba, but got unnecessary delay by the company.

The group revealed that the cost of construction awarded to the company is over N489m to boost the economic activities of the state, but has suffered setbacks due to non-completion by the company, which assured the clients of perfection.

They called on Governor Kefas Agbu to report the matter to the Federal Ministry of Resources and Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority in Yola to revoke the contract and reward it to a more reliable, competent, and professional Dam construction company.

According to them, however, they learnt that the company is facing a lot of court litigations and was dragged to several courts across the country over the services they were rendering to prospective clients.

They warned individuals, private organizations, and government agencies to be wary of the company because it cannot handle many projects.

“They were awarded to construct this dam in 2020 because our people are facing serious acute water problems; for over four years now, they have not done more than half of the Job, and no one is seeing their presence any longer.” The statement read.

They begged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through the Ministry of Water Resources to revoke the contract and reward it to a more reliable, competent Dam construction company.
