The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Gusau branch in Zamfara State has organized market square sensitization campaign to small and medium scale traders in Gusau the state capital, in respect of old Naira notes deadline.
The theme of the sensitization campaign tagged, “Don’t Wait Until 31 January 2023”, was held at Gusau Central Market Square Saturday.
Addressing traders during occasion, the Controller CBN Gusau branch, Malam Buhari Abbas said, the essence of the advocacy is to enlighten the general public on the stipulated time set aside by CBN on the legality of the affected N1000, N500 and N200 old Naira notes from 31st January 2023.
He further revealed that the 31th January set aside by the central bank of Nigeria CBN is still on and urged public to shun any forms of rumors that the deadline will be extended by the CBN.
The comptroller tasked marketers as well as small and medium scale traders to as a matter of urgency go and deposit their old Naira notes of N1000, N500 and N200 to the nearest commercial banks before 31th January this year.
According to him, the selected old Naira notes has no limit of deposition, stressing that an individual or corporate body can make during the transition period that expires on the January 31, 2023.
He further pointed out that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed all its branches and select branches of all commercial banks to work from Monday to Saturday during the transition period to enable citizens to deposit their old Naira notes of N1,000, N500 and N200 in their possession.
“Citizens can make payments through eNaira, Point Of Sale, mobile payment services banks, (Hope PSB, 9PSB, MTN’s momo PSB, and Airtel ‘s SmartCash), mobile apps, Internet banking, USSD or other cashless channels “. He said .
In their separate remarks, leaders of Gusau Central Market thankef CBN Gusau branch for enlightening the general public on old Naira notes deadline, promising to abide by the CBN directive and deposit their money before January 31.
