The new Police Public Relations Officer, Kaduna State Command, Assistant Superientendat of Police (ASP) Usman Aliyu has pleaded with the media to call him to order anytime they see him straying as he is ready to partner the media for the unity, security and development of the state.
Aliyu made the plea Monday during a call on the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna Council when he was introduced by his predecessor Superintendent Zubairu Abubakar.
The new PPRO stressed that the way the media portray the Police and by extension the society, is the way the whole world will look at them.
“Report less of our negatives but dwell on the positives to advance the course of society in the interest of the majority” he admonished.
He stressed that he has been tutored by his superiors on the job and would build on the foundation laid to carry the media along.
Also speaking, the immediate past PPRO who is now the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Kurmin Mashi Police Station, Supol. Zubairu Abubakar said he has enjoyed tremendous working relationship with the media and would do all he can to sustain the tempo.
Abubakar said often while Editors are on the head of journalists to turn in their reports, the PPRO is also under pressure from the Command, especially where he needs clearance from superiors officers before making certain information public. He therefore pleaded with journalists to exercise more patience with Police spokespersons especially if and when they call and their calls were not answered.
he also revealed that in addition to dealing with the media, the PPRO is also the chief protoco;a officer of the command and the Compere, so it is a tripple job for one man who must, at all times deliver effectively.
He stressed that Kaduna State is one state where managing security is highly challenging and herculean, but the media has always aided the security agents.
In his remarks, NUJ Kaduna Council Chairman, Comrade Garba Mohammad applauded the past PPRO for his outstanding effort in public relation and in his prompt response to media enquiries.
He stressed that journalists are critical stakeholders in ensuring unity, peace and security in the state and would always place that at the forefront of its social responsibilities.
He congratulated Zubairu for his promotion to Supol and elevation to DPO while advising Aliyu to ensure his doors are open always and see journalist as partners in progress and not antagonists.
The new PPRO was until his new deployment, the Officer in charge of Sheik Abubakar Mahmud Gumi Market. He was before then the second in command to the PPRO.
