Ensuring compliance to President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive that the National Sports Commission (NSC) diversifies sports in the country to see to other sports competing with football, interest in several sporting federations is yielding activities.
Director Grassroots Sports Development NSC, Dr. Ademola Are stated this while speaking on phone with New Nigerian Sports from Owerri .
He said that several federations that have the potentials of producing multiple medals at international outings are being motivated to perform by the commission.
“Though right now I am in Owerri for the Federal Public Servants Games (FEPSGA),  just yesterday in Abuja, a three-day seminar on open water swimming was concluded in Abuja. It attracted participants from all over the country and the Aquatic Federation President was represented by his vice, Rear Admiral Egbedina.
“The seminar which was organized in conjunction with FINA will provide us with opportunities at discovering talents that can win multiple medals for us from open swimming at international c0ompetitions,” he added.
Meanwhile in a related development, Jos the Plateau State capital would also be hosting a Rowing and Yachting demonstration and exhibition at the Rayfield Resorts.
According to Dr. Are, that event is meant to create awareness to the populace so that interest can be generated in the sport from where people can realize its importance.
“We are hoping that the Rowing and Yachting exhibition will attract new interests from where professionals would emerge who will in no distant future, start earning revenue from sports,” he added.
