Buhari will win war against corruption in Nigeria – APC Chieftain
By; Bayo Akamo, Ibadan.
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and one of the Directors of the Odu’‎a Investment Company Ltd. (OICL), Otunba Olajumoke Ogunkeyede has predicted that President Muhammadu Buhari will prevail and win the war against corruption in the country.
Otunba Ogunkeyede stated this in Ibadan during a chat with journalists on a recent claim by Father Nbaka that some people are allegedly planning to assassinate the President because of his war against corruption in Nigeria.
The APC leader maintained that the alarm raised by Father Mbaka should not be taken for granted because, “there’s no way corruption would be fought and it would not fight back”.
“Even without anyone saying it, you should know that it should be natural for such heinous idea to be muted, because those people having skeletons in their cupboards now see Mr. President as their number one enemy that must be eliminated. But don’t forget that man proposes, God disposes. If God is not ready to bring Buhari down, none of them will succeed,” he said.
Otunba Ogunkeyede added that “President Buhari will prevail and by the grace of God, nobody will eliminate him. By the grace of God, nobody will eliminate Buhari so that he can continue with the job he’s doing for Nigeria to be on the right path. If anybody touches Buhari, that will be the end of Nigeria”.
Speaking on the bail granted the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) who is currently standing trial over allegation of diversion of $2.1bn arms fund only for him to be rearrested by the security agents, he advocated total overhauling of the nation’s laws to reflect the current reality in the country.
He maintained that the judiciary should not be blamed for such but that the existing laws which are not firm enough in dealing with corruption, adding, “it is not the fault of the judiciary, there has to be a change in the nation’s laws.
“A system that allows a person that steals a billion Naira for instance to get bail in court because he has enough money to hire a good lawyer, but, which sends a person that steals an ordinary goat to seven-year imprisonment because of his lack of money for a good counsel cannot be said to be alright. There has to be reordering of the judiciary and even the legislature. Look at the case of the National Assembly proposing to buy billions of Naira worth of vehicles, I don’t think there’s any law that stops it, but, these are the kind of things we should look into,” he said.
According to him, “if President Muhammadu Buhari is able to inherit some vehicles from his predecessor and feel comfortable riding them, I think that should instill some fears into the legislators and say we should be careful, but, there’s no law that says they should be careful and yet, they are the same people that ‎are supposed to make the law that will ask them to be careful. We need people at the corridors of power who will be on the same page with the people on the need to do things right in this country, we need to change some of our laws for this country to really jump forward, the level at which we are moving is very slow, we need to jump forward but not with some of the existing laws”
