President Muhammadu Buhari  on Wednesday suspended a scheduled breaking of the Ramadan fast with the  National Assembly leadership.
The Presidency said the postponement was due to a clash in schedule that was allegedly put together hurriedly after President Buhari returned from his medical trip early in the week.
Sources, however, indicated that the lawmakers declined to attend the dinner due to what they described as the witch hunting of the  Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, both of whom may be arraigned by the Federal Government next week for alleged forgery.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, while responding to insinuations that the event was cancelled due to the refusal of the National Assembly leadership to attend, insisted it was a mere cancellation, adding that a new date would be fixed for members of parliament to take their turn to break the fast with the President.
He said: “Please don’t call it cancellation because nothing like that happened.
“The President’s Iftar for the leadership of the National Assembly was postponed, to be rescheduled for another date.”This arose from the clash of schedules. You know the President spent the first fourteen days of the fast out of the country.
“The schedule was put up hurriedly on his return to ensure that all interests are accommodated.
“It turned out that the date fixed for the parliament could not be sustained due to prior commitments some of the invitees had. We are expecting that a new date will be appointed.”
