The National Coordinating Council (NCC) of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) on Tuesday accused the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government of allegedly meting unfair treatment to the leaders and people of the South-West.
OPC NCC raised the alarm in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan signed by its spokesman, Comrade Adesina Akinpelu.
The group observed that it was glaring that the South West people and their leaders are allegedly suffering under the present administration, and that “without the votes of the South West, President Buhari would not have had the opportunity of becoming the President”.
“It is a sad development that a zone that played such a pivotal role in ensuring victory for Mr. President is today being neglected and its leaders relegated. It is equally very sad that leaders in South West who played such crucial roles in making Mr. President what he is are today being treated with scorn and denigrated by the Northern Fulani oligarchy” he said.
Specifically, the OPC NCC spokesperson stated that “Leaders like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who worked round the clock to ensure victory for President Buhari is today being treated like nonentity by those he assisted to become what they are today”.
“We want the President to know that Asiwaju Tinubu is a Yoruba leader who is gradually assuming the position of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.”
Comrade Akinpelu cautioned that “any attack on Asiwaju Tinubu or any other Yoruba leader is nothing but an attack on the entire Yoruba people” and that the “OPC will not take it easy with anyone who tries to ridicule or bring down the leaders in the South-West.
“Any further attack on the person of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu or any other Yoruba leader will be termed as an attack on Yorubaland. Oodua People’s Congress will not accommodate such affront”.
The OPC NCC spokesperson however lauded the First Lady, Hajia Aisha Buhar for her courage in speaking her mind on the issues she raised recently about the government.
