Buhari assures of FG commitment to education

President Muhammadu Buhari has said Nigeria cannot achieve accelerated development without high attention to education assuring of the Federal Government’s commitment to the sector.
He stated this Saturday at the 38th Convocation ceremony of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria as s visitor to the university.
Represented by Professor Akanerem Essien, a visiting Professor National University Commission (NUC), he said his administration will continue to put additional impact on equity, infrastructures, physical development, curriculum relevant, funding and planning to bring about the expected change in the socioeconomic, political and cultural aspect of Nigeria.
“It is note-worthy to mention that this administration recognises the globalization of the expanded technology”.
According to him, this area of knowledge-base economy government can key into the global village by given the desire attention to the industrial sector in general.
President Buhari urged the graduating students to apply the knowledge acquired in aiding the growth and development of Nigeria.
In his address the Vice Chancellor Ahmadu Bello University, Professor Ibrahim Garba said the university has observed drastically the reduction in social vices among students, such as cultism, sexual harassment and examination malpractice.
Prof. Garba added that the unique and challenging times the country is passing through under the change agenda of the Federal Government is gradually spreading to all facets of the Nigerian society and there is the need to abide by it.
He said the university is currently facing enormous financial burden and finding it difficult to cater for quality teaching and research, and staff walfare.
The Vice Chancellor appealed for additional funding from government especially for overhead and capital expenditure.
