Twenty one of the over two hundred abducted Chiboks Girls have been released.
The Girls are said to have been taken to a Military Hospital in Maiduguri.
Confirming their release, Presidential Spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu said the Girls are in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS). He explained that the Director General of DSS, Mallam Lawal Daura “just finished brifing the President H. E. Muhammadu Buhari”.
Writing on his twitter handle,  Shehu said “the release of the girls, in a limited number is the outcome of negotiations between the administration and the Boko Haram brokered by the International Red Cross and the Swiss Government. The negotiation will continue.
“The President welcomes the release of the girls but cautions Nigerians to be mindful of the fact that more than 30,000 fellow citizens were killed via terrorism”.
He stressed that DG DSS, Mallam Lawal wants the girls to have some rest with all of them tired coming out of the process before he hands them over to the Vice President, Professor Yomi Osinbajo.
The Chibok Girls were abducted in an all girl Secondary School in the town of Chibok, Borno State in April 2014.
