The controversy of what would become of the political situation in Zamfara State following the unanimous decision by the Supreme Court voiding votes cast for the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been laid to rest.
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Professor Yakoub announced on Saturday during a World Press Conference held in Abuja, saying that following Supreme Court verdict, the commission met and have determined the winners of the 2019 general elections in Zamfara State.
“APC did not conduct primaries in Zamfara State in stipulated time.
Various stakeholders including APC approached court on the matter, a lower Court advised INEC to include APC on the ballot which we complied.
“Supreme Court said votes cast by APC wasted and declared runners-up elected.
“Affected are the governor, Senator, Reps and members of state Assembly,” he said.
Professor Yakoub said that while other cases like that of the Senate, House of Reps and state assembly are easy to deal with, the governorship is not just by votes majority but spread in LGA.
He said that the commission has determined as winners, Governor PDP, deputy Gov PDP, Senatorial three PDP.
Also declared winners are the House of Reps, where all seats were also claimed by the PDP .
State Assembly also claimed by the PDP, with NRM. claiming one seat, with .
Certificates of return would be presented to winners on Monday for Governor, deputy governor, Senators elect and members of House of Reps elect, while those of the state Assembly winners would be presented on Friday 31st May 2019.
