Immediate past Governor of Kaduna State and Dalatun Zazzau, Alhaji Muhktar Ramalan Yero has broken his silence over his purported arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) saying he was invited and went on his own volition on on-going investigation into campaign fund of 2015 elections.
Cornered by a group of journalists after his condolence visit to Senator Shehu Sani over his mother’s demise, Yero said the investigation by the EFCC is over the N700 million for the  2015 elections from the Presidency down to the House of Representatives and the money was disbursed as directed down to the ward levels without any individual benefiting as speculated.
“I was never arrested by the EFCC. I was invited on a Friday through a phone call. Someone called me through our former party chairman’s phone; Chief A.G. Haruna. At that time I was in Jalingo conducting the North East Congresses, because I was the Chairman of the congress in the North East.
“They asked me to be in Kano on Saturday in connection with the investigation they are doing that has to do with some funds that was given for 2015 general elections. But I told them I cant make it on that Saturday to Kano but will be there on Monday by God’s grace.
“I came back to Kaduna on Sunday and left for Kano on Monday morning along with our party Chairman, Chief A. G. Haruna, former Minister Nuhu Wya as well as the former SSG Hamza Isi’ak Danmahawayi because they were all invited by the EFCC and none of us was arrested; we presented ourselves to EFCC in Kano.
“While there, they said Kaduna State was given the sum of N700 million naira which is true, and everyone knows that all the political parties in this country spent money for elections, which is nothing new and the PDP is not an exception. We actually collected the money and spent it in line with what we were told to do as far as the election was concern.
“And you all remember that it was not just one election but the Presidential, Senatorial and House of representatives election; so it was three elections in one.
“That is what actually transpired. And being the leader of the state, though I have to be invited to confirm if we received the money and I confirmed that yes we received the money. And no one benefited from the money apart from sending it down to the wards as directed. The money was spent in the wards and the polling units. That is exactly what transpired” the former explained.
He added that the investigation is on-going and it is not only in Kaduna State but it is all over Nigeria.
“So it is not new and it is not me alone, and it has nothing to do with my stewardship as the governor of Kaduna State. It is purely on political ground and purely on election matters. That is the only thing that I can say at the moment” he concluded.
He however called on his supporters and sympathizers to remain calm, obey constituted authorities, pray for the leaders assuring that he was conscious of all his cats and confident of  living a peaceful life as an innocent man guided by God Almighty.
