Borno NUJ Elects New Exco

Borno State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists’ (NUJ has on Saturday, elected new executive council members to run the affairs of the council for the next three years under the observation of the National President of the NUJ, Comrade Chris Isiguzo during the union’s 2022 Triennial Delegates Conference held at Musa Usman State Secretariat Complex International Conference Hall, Maiduguri.
The Chainman of the Credentials Committee, Comrade Ali Mamman Shuwa  who announced the results, said Comrade Dauda Iliya  of FRCN  Radio Nigeria emerged  Chairman, while Comrade Abdulkareem Haruna of HumAngle emerged the Vice Chairman of the council.
According to him, Chiroma Ali Ibrahim of Peace FM won as Secretary of the council and Mrs. Hauwa Bata of Peace FM also emerged as Treasurer of the council, while  Iya  Maaji of  NTA Network Center became the Assistant Secretary.
Others  include Babagana Ali of BRTV, who  emerged  Financial Secretary and Mrs. Bawagana  Abba Liman of Federal Information Unit  was elected  Auditor.
The Chairman thanked  the congress  for their support, understanding, patience and resilience in the peaceful conduct of the election which he described as free and fair.
He also acknowledged the support and cooperation of the NUJ National Secretariat for sending the Zonal National Vice President North East, Comrade Zare Baba who coordinated and monitored the Triennial  Conference.
Shuwa further thanked Governor Zulum for his untiring support and assistance in seeing to the success of the election, as well as other individuals and organizations that supported the Credentials Committee and NUJ Election in one way or the other,.including Barrister Nankham Ayuba Dammo who administered oath of office and allegiance to the new exco members.
The  Credentials Committee Chairman also presented to all the newly elected exco members, their certificates of return, while congratulating them.
In his acceptance speech, the new NUJ  Chairman Borno State Council, Comrade Dauda Iliya thanked the  members for giving him the privilege to serve them for the next three years and confidence reposed on him, while promising never to fail them.
He also solicited for  support and cooperation of all and sundry, including the  contestants, elders and senior colleagues to move the union to greater heights and regain its lost glory, as well as repositioning of the union towards the promotion and consolidation of its achievements.
He also sought support for ensuring  welfare of the members of the union, which he described as paramount and cannot be compromised by his leadership.
Iliya further pledged to work assiduously to ensure the development and progress of the NUJ Press Center in collaboration with NGOs, corporate organiztions and individuals, while emphasizing readiness  to continue  partnering with the state government, Mass Communication Department of University of Maiduguri, and all   relevant  authorities to promote peace and stability in the state as part of the post insurgency rebuilding process.
