Boko Haram: Military Asks Buhari For More Weapons

Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan Ali, on Thursday demanded for the provision of more equipment by government for the military to enhance their security operations across the country.
According to the Minister, the request for the procurement of additional weapons is consequent upon the engagement of troops in various internal security operations across the country.
The Minister stated this in a statement he issued through his Public Relations Officer, Colonel Tukur Gusau, at the end of a meeting of the National Security Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“Finally, in view of the engagement of troops in various internal security operations across the country, the Honourable Minister requested for provision of more equipment for the armed forces in order to sustain the tempo in the fight against insurgency and other security challenges across the country, the statement said.
The statement which contained the briefing of the Minister to the council also noted that in the South South, Operation Delta Safe had sustained it’s operations against illegal activities in the Niger Delta region with resultant reduction in illegal oil bunkering, militancy and pipeline vandalism.
He also informed council that there was a review of Operation Safe Haven in the North Central, leading to the appointment of a new commander.
