The acting Executive Secretary of Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Sir James Iorpuu has said that the Benue State Government led by His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia is committed to returning the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their various homes.
Sir Iorpuu who disclosed this during a Radio Phone -In programme, Issues of the Moment with Harvest FM, Makurd,, said structures must be put in place to reintegrate the internally displaced persons back into their communities.
The state emergency boss said to show how important and strategic the state governor is to achieving results on humanitarian response and ending crises, “the governor upon assumption of office, partnered with federal government and international and local partners to launch a process of returning of IDPs to their ancestral homes”.
The Ag Executive Secretary highlighted the major successes recorded by Governor Alia in collaboration with Federal Government and partners as to include Biometric Data Capturing, launching of renewed hope shelters for the IDPs and peace building in the state which enable many IDPs to access their farmlands among others.
He described the governor’s promised to return the IDPs as active, emphasizing that Benue SEMA became a humanitarian hubs by the presence of International partners due to government’s commitment towards addressing humanitarian issues in the state.
On the general welfare of IDPs, Sir Iorpuu said the state government through Benue SEMA has prioritized IDPs’ welfare with regular distribution of food and non food materials, provision of health service, water, sanitation and hygiene, protection, emergency education, empowerment.
