Believe, Tigers win Musa Kida/ABUBBF 3-A-Side Basketball Competition

Team Believe and Team Tigers have emerged champions of the Musa Kida/ABUBBF 3-A-Side Basketball Competition, which ended at the weekend at the Indoor Gymnasium Sports Complex of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria.
Team Believe emerged champions of Group I after edging out Team Crackers, while Team Tigers beat Team Focus to the top spot in Group II.
A total of 12 teams featured in the competition which was sponsored by the Deputy Managing Director, Total Nigeria Plc, Musa Kida in collaboration with the Ahmadu Bello University Basketball Foundation (ABUBBF).
In a related development, four teams have qualified for the
semi-finals of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) 2016 Inter Faculty Basketball Games.
The teams that qualified are from Science, Education, Social Sciences and Engineering faculties.
In an interview at the ABU Indoor Gymnasium Hall, venue of the games, ABU’s Basketball Technical Adviser, Coach Oliver B. Johnson said that it was organized to provide an avenue to select new star players for the institution.
He said each team is made up of four players, with the target of making them learn the first rule of the game of basketball, which is scoring.
“We are looking at getting two or three standby teams for the university, which is prided as ‘the home of basketball’ so we are playing half courts,” he explained.
When asked if he was satisfied with the skills displayed, he said that he was impressed because within ten minutes that a game lasts, he has seen over 60 points scored from both participating teams.
“I am happy because I am seeing them score points, which is what I want them to do,” he stressed.
The semi-finals, third placed and final match for the inter faculty games is billed for Saturday.
