By; Bayo Akamo, Ibadan.
The Minister of Communications, Barrister Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu, has asked Nigerians to be security conscious and avoid acts that can cause crisis in the country.
Barrister Shittu gave the advice in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Victor Oluwadamilare made available to journalists in Ibadan.
The Minister pointed out that in doing this, Nigerians should engage only in acts capable of promoting peace and rapid development of the country, saying, even though the Year 2015 has been somewhat turbulent, Nigerians have many reasons as a nation to be hopeful.
As we celebrate the New Year, I urged all Nigerians irrespective of religious leaning and political affiliations to reflect on the challenges that worked against our progress with a new zeal to tackling them. Let us put the ills of 2015 behind us and forge ahead with a renewed vigour,” he said.
Barrister Shittu stressed that as the birth of Jesus Christ epitomizes the love of God for mankind, Nigerians should emulate the virtue by showing love to each other and refrain from acts capable of igniting crisis in the country.
While soliciting the support and co-operations of Nigerians for President Muhammadu Buhari in his sincere strides to make Nigeria better, he urged that government in the country should be seen as a collective efforts by both the rulers and the governed, saying, only such orientation can make things work in the country.
The minister while appealing to religious leaders in the country to continue to preach peace and love, irrespective of tribal or religious leanings, assured Nigerians of the readiness of the present administration to improve the lots of the masses through various welfarist programmes and policies.
Barrister Shittu also reassured Nigerians that his ministry is committed to ensuring quality telecommunications services from the service providers without undermining the security of the country.
