The Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe on Thursday, admonished Muslim Women to be involved in peacemaking processes at the religious and community levels to secure a partnership in peace-building processes.

Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe stated this at 8th Annual National Conference of the Initiative for Muslim Women of Nigeria held at Dr. Ahmad Muhhamed Makarfi Quranic Recitation Complex in Kaduna.

The Deputy Governor  specially recognized and commended the Initiative for Muslim Women in Nigeria for the wonderful work they’re are doing to support widows, orphans, vulnerable children, and Internally Displaced Persons,  amongst  other humanitarian interventions they have been doing over the years.
She prayed for  Allah’s reward and blessings on them for the work of charity.
“My fellow Muslim Ummah, this year’s conference is convened under the theme “The Role of Islam in Curbing Insecurity”.
“This theme  is apt, considering the numerous challenges confronting us in Nigeria. I believe this conference will yet afford us with another opportunity to reflect on these challenges and see how we as Muslim Ummah will contribute meaningfully towards finding practical solutions.
“Our societies today are plagued with many security challenges and and many social vices that threaten human lives and societal development.
“These security threats manifest in the form of terrorism, banditry, armed robbery, kidnapping, violent conflicts, drugs abuses and many others which have slowed progress, and inflicted pains and injuries to our people.
“The federal, states and local governments are channeling huge resources that should have been used for development purposes into efforts to curb insecurity,” she said.
Speaking further, she they all know that a society plagued by insecurity cannot progress.
“Therefore, overcoming these challenges requires our collective efforts. Islam, as the religion of peace, can contribute greatly to providing practical solutions to  modern-day challenges confronting us as a people because Islamic heritage contains a rich tradition of high values and norms of behavior, which governs personal, professional, and business life.
“Among the root causes of insecurity in Nigeria is the erosion of values and virtues which are being replaced by individualism, materialism, apathy, and moral degeneration,  we are also seeing a deterioration of the family system in addition to the problem of ignorance and misuse of Islamic knowledge.
“As generally agreed by both Muslim and non-Muslim scholars, there is no doubt that noble women like Khadija  played vital roles in promoting Islam and building peaceful societies.
“In my view, we the Muslim women would be able to contribute in solving security challenges in Nigeria when we properly play the role of mothers inculcating good Islamic values in the hearts of our children.
“We must bear in mind that peace and security must start from the home. As wives, sisters, caregivers, and mothers, we exert some influence on the lives of our husbands and children as such we can influence their thoughts and shape their behavior through Islamic teachings.

“We should evolve better practices to curb poverty through skill acquisition, agriculture, business ventures and other ways too.As a government, the APC administration in Kaduna is convinced that women have a lot to contribute to the growth and development of the state.
“Consequently, we try as much as possible to empower women and give them the opportunity to contribute in governing state, solve societal problems and participate in the state economy.
“In addition, we have expanded access to education and made the primary and secondary education free for girls and boys of school age. We must give attention to the education of our children,” she explained.

She commended them   for the honour of being invited to share her thoughts with the noble gathering of Muslim Women.
“I want to specially thank you for finding me worthy to be among the women given award of honour today. I feel humbled and I hope that I will live up to that recognition you have given to me by the grace of God Almighty,” she added.
