Governor Abiola Ajimobi, at the weekend hinted that Oyo State Government is set to effect a major restructuring in the state owned Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) “for better service delivery”.
The governor dropped this hint in Ibadan while addressing BCOS workers during an unscheduled visit to the Ile Akede, Orita Basorun headquarters of the station, shortly after his closed door meeting with the management of the Corporation.
According to Governor Ajimobi, who declared that his visit was not to witch hunt the workers but to encourage them to be more dedicated and committed to their duties, in the planned, restructuring of the station, no worker would be sacked but could be moved to areas of core competence within the public service.
“I am here to promote the effectiveness, proficiency and efficiency of workers, irrespective of the political party you have sympathy for. I am a manager and I know there is need for attitudinal, structural and policy changes here,” he said.
The governor while advocating attitudinal change and paradigm shift among the workers for the planned transformation of the BCOS to be realized, tasked the management and staff of the BCOS to redouble their efforts towards the performance of their primary role of educating, informing, entertaining the public, as well as propagating government activities.
“In style, attitude and paradigm, there is need for change because if you keep doing the same thing the same way, you will keep getting the same result. The era when workers saunter about idly is gone. There is no more room for playing politics and gossiping during official hours. This will receive prompt attention as soon as we professionalize this place.”
Speaking further, the governor promised that “the worn-out analogue broadcast equipment at the state-owned radio and television stations would soon be overhauled with state-of-the-art digital facilities”.
Governor Ajimobi who lauded the BCOS workers for their support for his administration since 2011, urged them not to rest on their oars in realization of the challenges ahead, saying there was the need for the workers to continue to support his administration, irrespective of their political leanings.
