Bauchi Police Hands Over Mopped-Up Firearms, Ammunition To FG

Mopped-up firearms and ammunition recovered from different individuals in various areas within and outside Bauchi State in the last six months were on Tuesday presented to the National Centre for the Control of Small and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) in the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) by the Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Police Force.

Presenting the recovered mopped-up firearms, the state commissioner of police, CP Umar Mamman Sanda said that the recovery comprised of Twenty-five (25) AK-47, One (1) locally made SMG, One (1) locally fabricated AK-47, One (1) English Berretta and One (1) magazine, as well as Two (2) P/Berretta.

He enumerated other firearms and ammunition to included Twenty-nine (29) rusted/unserviceable locally made P/cartridges, Twenty-seven (27) rusted/unserviceable locally made revolver, and One (1) locally made Dane Gun.

Also included in the presentation are Eight hundred and seventy-four (874) 7.56mm, Five hundred and twenty-two (5022) 5.56mm, One hundred and thirteen (113) 9x19mm, Two hundred and seventy-four (274) 62.7mm, One hundred and seventy-seven (177) 38mm, and Eighty-seven Blank.

Police Commissioner Umar Sanda then assured law abiding citizens in the state of his command renewed and unwavering, determination and commitment to their safety and security, especially during this period.

He reiterated the determination of the federal government to stop the senseless bloodletting and insecurity occasioned by Small Arms & Light Weapons (SALW) in circulation within the communities by mopping up all illicit weapons.

CP Umar Sanda also assured of the government’s control of the proliferation of all weapons in the holdings of all arms bearing agencies/ organizations in the country

This, he recalled, resulted to the approval by President Muhammadu Buhari for the establishment of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms & Light Weapons (NCCSALW) in March 2021 to institutionalize SALW control at all levels of the polity, and to streamline illicit SALW eradication efforts.

Sanda therefore urged all members of the public to support the government in its efforts to eradicate illicit SALW in circulation and by extension, promote an illicit arms-free society.Receiving the consignment, the director of operations in the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms & Light Weapons (NCCSALW) in the Office of the National Security Adviser, CP Chris Olowale said their office will commence further investigations with a view to determine the sources of the firearms and their manufacturers
