Senators and Representatives in the National Assembly right from the first to the fourth republics Joint Forum are to confer an Award of Excellence on Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi state for his ‘exemplary style’ of promoting probity, transparency and good governance.
Chairman of the forum and former Senate President in the second republic, Senator Joseph Wayas dropped the hint for the award conferment when he led members of the forum on a courtesy visit to Governor Abubakar in Abuja.
Senator Wayas said the forum has watched with interest the “laudable programmes and projects being carried out by Abubakar administration in Bauchi and wondered how he was able to achieved all these in spite of paucity of funds to the state, according to a statement signed by his press secretary, Abubakar Al-Sadiq in Bauchi.
While enumerating the areas that most captured the forum interest that necessitated the conferment of the award on the Governor slated for next Thursday in Abuja, Senator Wayas identified the giant strides made in the area of prioritizing education above all critical sectors, promoting accessibility to good and quality healthcare through good funding, resuscitating decayed industries, anti-corruption in public service, and infrastructural development.
Responding, Governor Mohammed Abubakar, who said that he has immense respect for the forum and what its membership stands for, dedicated the award to the people of Bauchi State whom, he stated, gave him the trust of running their affairs.
The Governor observed that when the history of the 2015 national elections is written on the platter of gold, Bauchi State will feature prominently because of its uniqueness of politics and sagacity of the electorate to decide what they want on election days.
“I was only able to win the election, with the support of the people of Bauchi State who solidly supported me and invariably the change agenda of our party, the APC which most Nigerians voted for, defeating the combined forces of the former PDP national Chairman, the then sitting Governor and the then FCT Minister as well as others like the Chairman and the Secretary of Tetfund”.
He explained that democracy is still in its infancy in the country, with some grey areas needing the guidance of senior citizens that have acquired rich experience in governance known in law as “The principal participants, who are principal stakeholders that wore the shoes and therefore know where it pinches, and in a good position to guide the development of democracy in Nigeria”.
