Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi state Wednesday charged the newly appointed twenty chairmen of the Local Government Caretaker Committees in the state to shun corrupt practices while discharging their duties.
Abubakar, while swearing-in the caretaker chairmen, whose appointment were Tuesday confirmed by the State House of Assembly at the Government House Bauchi, further warned them against manhandling finances of their respective local councils.
“I admonish you to be judicious in handling the finances of the Local Government, to be fair in your dealings with all categories of people and shun bootlickers and rumor mongers”, he stated.
He added, “This administration has no place for the corrupt, indolent and incompetent people. You should also be absolutely loyal to the present administration in the state and be totally committed to its objectives”.
The Governor frowned, “For the avoidance of doubt, let me warn that I will not hesitate to remove any chairman found to be wanting or disloyal to the government or our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC)”.
He also tasked the chairmen to pay special attention to the improvement of internally generated revenue of their Local Government Areas, complement what is given them from the federation account, pay staff salaries and even execute some projects in their respective areas.
“You should give security, provision of social amenities and employment generation special attention. The additional security measures adopted by the government have ensured that our state is today the safest in the country”, Abubakar told the council chiefs.
According to him, the present administration in the state is putting in place measures aimed at employment generation to the people by revitalizing ailing industries, well as provision of technical and vocational trainning to the youth so that they can become self-employed.
