Bauchi flags off vaccine for pneumonia treatment

Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency Monday flagged off the introduction of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine for the treatment of pneumonia for new born babies and children under one year.
The Agency Chairman, Pharmacist Adamu Ibrahim Gamawa who flagged-off the campaign at Bauchi Urban Maternity Clinic explained that the vaccine is to be used on new born babies three times when they reach six and ten weeks old.
Pharmacist Gamawa therefore called on husbands to allow their wives to bring their wards to the nearest maternity for the injection to protect them from the dreaded disease.
The Acting Chairman of Bauchi Local Government Council, Alhaji Ado Sarkin Aska had earlier described the exercise as a welcome development in preventive measure against child killer disease.
In his remarks, Dr. Habu Dahiru of the World Health Organization (WHO) who represented Development Partners at the occasion, called on parents to take advantage of the programme for the benefit of their children.
Also speaking, District Head of Bakaro in Bauchi Local Government Area, Alhaji Nuru Adamu Jumba, and the Galadima of Bauchi, Alhaji Ibrahim Sa’idu Jahun, have separately commended the National and State Agency for Primary Healthcare development Agency for introducing the vaccine.
The Executive Secretary of the State Agency for the Control of Aids, Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Malaria Dr. Mansur Mustapha, administered the vaccine to some selected babies.
