Wife of the Bauchi State Governor, Hadiza Mohammed Abubakar has reiterated that her pet project, Bauchi Sustainable Women Economic Empowerment and Peace Initiative (B-SWEEP) will be used to liberate women from economic bondage and ensure peaceful co-existence among various women groups in the state.
Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar while concluding her tour in the twenty local government areas of the state Friday, educating the women folk about the pet project, said that B-SWEEP is more concern about women economic empowerment and the need for girl-child, especially the dropouts to return to school.
“Under B-SWEEP which is a non-governmental organization, women will be expose to various skills acquisition training, encourage women to actively take part in modern farming and animal husbandry, ensure health-being of women and children, as well as open vintage for girl-child dropouts to continue their formal education”, she told hundreds of women at Bauchi Multi-Purpose Sports Hall, venue of the tour round-off.
Hadiza expressed dismay at situations whereby majority of womenfolk, especially those at the rural areas were subjected to abject poverty and untold hardships in the quest to make ends meet, hence her resolve to establish B-SWEEP in order to salvage women from the shackles of poverty, ignorance and disease.
The Acting Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Bauchi Local Government Council, Saminu Mohammed Gidado had in a welcome address described Bauchi council as the biggest in the state, hence the need for the First Lady to accord greater priority to the local government which also shelters internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Gidado, who congratulated the First Lady for her successful tour of the state, explained that the Bauchi Local Government has 13 District Heads, 80 Village Heads, and over 500 Hamlet Heads with multiples Community-Based Organizations (CBOs).
B-SWEEP has the objectives of economic empowerment through skills acquisition, maternal and child health care services, agriculture, education (Girl-Child Drop-outs), and peaceful co-existence.
