Bauchi ‘Eye On Education’ Program Raises Education Standard

Bauchi State Special Schools Board Chairman, Yakubu Ibrahim Hamza has observed that the only legacy one could bequeath the up-coming generation is to ensure that every child attend school whether or not thereafter he or she is opportune to be employed into public service.
 
To this end, the board chairman commended Governor Mohammed Abubakar for the introduction of a new programme into the education sector tagged, “Eye on Education” or 2E geared to raise the standard of education generally in the state.
 
The programme which comprised of well-tailored educationists was saddled with the responsibilities, among others, routine inspection of schools, giving advises on way forward, and taking schools problems with a view to prospering solutions.
 
The board chairman recalled that the introduction of the 2E programme at the inception of Governor Abubakar-led administration in 2015 has steadily raised the standard of education in Bauchi state with SSC examination passes up from 0.03% in 2015 to 27% in 2017.
 
Alhaji Yakubu Ibrahim Hamza who was speaking Thursday while receiving members of the Democratic Enlightenment Initiative (DEI), a political pressure group in his office in Bauchi, said the push culminated students under the board scoring 90% in final exams with 5 credits and above including English and mathematics.
 
He explained that under the programme, dilapidated secondary schools structures such as staff quarters, classrooms, hostels, kitchens and conveniences are being renovated and put to proper use as parts of conducive teaching and learning environment provision.
 
“The routine monthly inspection of initial five secondary schools under the board has now been extended to 50 secondary schools across the state and will be increased gradually until the programme cover all the over 400 schools in the state in the efforts to generally raise the standard of education”, Hamza said.
 
Hamza commended the students of Jibril Aminu Special Secondary School in the state for taking the 3rd position in the recent national educational competition held at Abuja coming after the Abuja School for the Talented and one private school either in South East or South- South that he cannot vividly remember.
 
The chairman while reiterating the board’s commitment in seeing that the standard of education is generally raised in the state, however regretted that before the advent of the present administration in Bauchi, most of the schools were shambles with dilapidated structures, some of which are even out of use.
