The Emir of Dass in Bauchi State, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Usman has given the assurance that the 351 communities in the Local Government Area of his emirate will be able to sustain the landmark feat of Open Defecation Free (ODF) they have already achieved.
The emir, was weekend fielding press questions preparatory to the declaration Monday on a national scale that it is the first Local Government among the 774 in the country to achieve the ODF feat.
It is expected that representatives from the other 773 Local Governments across the country will converge in Dass Monday to take a queue on how the Local Government was able to achieve the position of Open Defecation Free (ODF).
Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu explained that the 351 communities in the Local Government Area will employ strategies that will make the system sustainable.
Some of the strategies, according to the emir, include the involvement of 100 percent community leaders and all strata of the communities’ leadership at the emirate, district, village and ward levels, as well as settlements as another way of sustaining the landmark achievement.
The emir further disclosed that other strategies to sustain the ODF, will include strict supervision of wards and households to ensure that they have functional pits or conventional latrines against open defecation.
“It got to the extent that we supervise by ourselves to ensure that every community has achieved the basic landmark of ODF, and God’s willing the final result has come out and proven that Dass Local Government has been the first, and it is being celebrated Worldwide”, Usman said.
Alhaji Usman Usman commended Development Partners such as SHAWN, WASH and RUWASSA for the roles they played towards achieving this feat, stressing “They have actually done a lot, they have been in the forefront in the march towards this landmark achievement, and they were the partners that contributed immensely towards the successes”.
Dass Local Area will Monday by the Minister of Water Resources be nationally declared as the first among the 774 Local Government Areas in the country to achieve the position of Open Defecation Free, and its being celebrated Worldwide.
