Bauchi Accords Education, Health Priority In 2017 Budget

Bauchi State Government has allocated lion share of its 2017 budgets to education and health sector with 18% and 16%  respectively out of the total amount of N145 billion proposed to the House of Assembly for its consideration by Governor Mohammed Abubakar.
State Commissioner of information, Alhaji Idris Abdullahi said Tuesday at the  2017 budget breakdown at the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning that the budget proposal has give priority to Education with an allocation of N27,451 758,860  which is 18. 87 % followed by health sector that received N23, 409,475,630, or 16.09% of the total Budget
Alhaji Idris Abdullahi stressed that education and health are the most vital sectors which affect all and sundry ‘hence the resolve of the present administration to allocate more funds to the sectors with a view to revamping them
According to him,  the largest share to education sector in the budget is geared to renovate about 293 secondary schools across the state and construct 20 model primary health centres in the 20 local government areas that could provide efficient service delivery.
On measures to mitigate unemployment, he said that funding for the agricultural sector was also increased in the budget with the objective of creating jobs and wealth, as well as attain food security in the state.
Abdullahi disclosed that certain measures have also been put in place to ensure the actualization of the agricultural revolution programme of the administration before the next farming season.
He said that government planned to purchase grains for future use to cushion effects of price fluctuations on farmers’ income and the provision of farm implements, fertilizer, insecticides, pesticides and other inputs.
The commissioner further stated that the tractor hiring unit of the Ministry of Agriculture is being strengthened with refurbished tractors, while simple and affordable new ones are being purchased by the government
He stated that government would also establish farm training centres and demonstration farms, as biometric data of farmers in the state would be taken to enable small farmers access inputs directly at subsidized prices under the Nigeria Agricultural Payment Initiative.
“Government has keyed into the federal government’s Anchor Borrowers Agricultural scheme while proposing to empower youths in irrigation agriculture at Waya dam irrigation project in Bauchi South, Galala irrigation in Bauchi Central and Adalda irrigation scheme in Bauchi North, covering a total of about 300 hectres of land, he concluded..
