Kaduna State female basketball team, GT 2000, is to screen new players from February 7 to 9, to strengthen the squad ahead of the Zenith Bank Female Basketball League season.

The team’s Head Coach, Shim-Shim Morrison, told newsmen on Monday in Kaduna that the screening would be a closed one for players outside the state.

“Here in the state, we will give all players the opportunity to showcase their talents,” he said.

Morrison said that the screening would hold at the Murtala Mohammed Square, Kaduna.

According to him, the club intends to retain five out of its 15 players who featured in the 2017 season.

He said that the club desired to finish third on the league table in 2018 from its fifth position last year.

“This season, we hope to finish top and play in the premier league.

“We also want to play in continental tournaments and do well,’’ he added.

The head coach praised the state government for supporting the team last season, and appealed for adequate funding to execute its 2018 programmes.

He disclosed that the club would change its name to Kada Angels without giving reasons for the change.
