BASG vows to tackle crime

Bauchi State has reiterated the present administration’s determination to collaborate with security agencies to bring down the rate of crimes in the state.
Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Isma’ila Mohammed Isa who made the remark during an interactive session with the state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Bala Tijjani at the command’s headquarters in Bauchi, said the government is ever ready to partner with the agencies to safeguard the lives and property of citizens.
“The present administration in the state is prepared, ever ready and fully determined to join hands with the security agencies towards tackling crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping for ransom, and other vices in our society”, he said.
Isa explained that the interactive session with the Police Commissioner is born out of the need to mode out a coordinated approach in the drive to curb criminal activities in the state.
He added that the government acknowledges the efforts of the Police towards handling security issues in the state.
He assured of his ministry’s readiness to provide the Police with all possible logistics to effectively and diligently carry out its assigned responsibilities, describing security as paramount to the state government.
He urged the Police not to relent its efforts in ensuring that citizens sleep with their two eyes closed, as well as maintaining the place of Bauchi State as the home of peace and hospitality.
The state Police Commissioner, Alhaji Bala Tijjani while responding hailed the formation of Fulani Miyatti-Allah Police Relations Committee which, he assured, will work as a team to beef-up security in all parts of the state.
He disclosed that the committee will in the same vein form joint operational bodies at the local governments’ level to be controlled by Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in providing security services to the people at the grassroots.
CP Tijjani called on stakeholders at the council levels to sensitize people in their respective domains on the need to be security conscious, and ensure that the state is adequately and effectively secured to facilitate development.
Tijjani who noted that the duties of security agents will not be successful without the understanding, support and cooperation of the people also called on vigilante groups to support the Police in combating insecurity in the state.
