The National President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), Reverend Samson Ayokunle has declared that Nigeria need a total war against corruption
Reverend Ayokunle while stating this at a press conference in Ibadan on the state of the nation at the weekend also tasked President Muhammadu Buhari to tame the rampaging herdsmen before it will be too late to curb them
He pointed out that for the on going fight against corruption in Nigeria to be result oriented, President Buhari should make the corruption war total by looking beyond the last administration of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan for those to be probed.
Rev. Ayokunle maintained that what Nigeria need most to rid the country of corruption is to declare total war on corruption in Nigeria “at the local and state government levels for justice to be done.”
The Vice President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) emphasized that “this fight against corruption has to be more embracing beyond the last administration in the country. This act was perpetrated by the political leaders and the civil servants,” adding that corruption had retarded Nigeria’s growth with our national resources expected to be expended on the development been embezzled, mismanaged and/or misappropriated at the local, state and Federal government levels.
The CAN Presidential hopeful in this month election however charged President Buhari to use the funds recovered from those corrupt people to develop the almost non-existent infrastructural amenities in the nation.
Speaking on the herdsmen, Rev Ayokunle declared that the country “cannot afford to loose the souls of many innocent citizens again lost to Boko Haram attacks” hence the need to tame the herdsmen.
According to the NBC President, all hands must be on deck toward ensuring that herdsmen don’t turn into another terrorist organ in the country, adding that federal government should rise to the challenges and put an end to the violent acts of the herdsmen before they become a terrorist group.
“Checkmating the violent acts of these herdsmen in time would be helpful to all in this nation before they become a terrorist group that is too formidable to overcome. We need to urge the present administration to learn from the mistake of the last administration in the country who did not take quick and necessary action on Boko Haram terrorist group until they became almost too formidable and better equipped than our military,”he said.
Commenting on his ambition to head the largest Christian body in the country, Ayokunle said having been in the saddle as Vice President and his experience as the President of Nigerian Baptist Convention with verifiable achievements in the area of Church’s global expansion, transformation of Church’s investment portfolio, construction of hostel accommodation for both university and secondary school students and recovering of Church’s property and establishment of cable Television video, he was of the view that CAN would witness better developments than it is presently obtainable.
On the proposed preaching license in Kaduna State, Reverend Ayokunle cautioned the state governor and his other colleagues having such ambition to do it with utmost caution so as not to fan the ember of religious disunity adding that where such becomes inevitable, the board for religious activities should be composed of genuine people of God and not politicians who have vested interests.
