Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Ipalibo Harry Banigo has attributed the resounding victory by Rivers United Football Club of Port Harcourt over Shooting Stars of Ibadan in their Premier League encounter on Sunday at the General Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Elekahia to the personal motivation and presence of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.
In a statement through her Press Secretary, Paul Damgbor, the Deputy Governor said the decision by the Governor to watch the proceedings of the match underscores the love and support he had for the team and for the development of sporting activities in the State.
The Deputy Governor said the two goals to nothing defeat by Rivers United against their Shooting Stars counterpart is a clear indication that the Rivers team was a better side in the game.
Dr. Banigo who commended members of the team and their handlers for a job well done, expressed the hope that if they keep up the tempo, they would certainly top the premier league table.
She called on sport enthusiasts, corporate organisations and Rivers people to continue to support the team to win more laurels for the State to justify the huge investment by the State Government in the sponsorship of its club sides and sports development generally.
