Five local miners at Hayin Udawa Community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State were killed when bandits attacked the mining site.

The bandits stormed the mining site on Thursday afternoon when the victims were working.

A source confirmed the incident to New Nigerian but could not give details of what happened but assured that the victims were from Udawa village.

According to the source, “Five of our local miners were killed yesterday (Wednesday) while working in the bush. They were all from Udawa town.”

The source further explained that they (local miners) usually go into the bush for mining activities, saying that apart from those killed, others sustained gunshots.

He stated that where the attack took place was not far away from where bandits ambushed the personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), killing seven as well as six miners a few weeks ago.

The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Mohammed Jalige could not respond to calls put to him.
